Home Instead Senior Care – Specialists in Dementia Care
Home Instead Senior Care is a private non-medical provider of companionship and home care services supporting seniors to live independently at home.
In 2007 Home Instead Senior Care partnered with Alzheimer’s Australia (QLD) to develop a specialised dementia care training program for all Home Instead CAREGivers.
With an ever increasing number of Home Instead clients having some form of dementia it has become increasingly important for Home Instead CAREGivers to be able to provide them with appropriate support and care.
Martin Warner, Director of Home Instead Senior Care says “no one knows about dementia care as well as Alzheimer’s Australia and we recognise the expertise and the value they can add to our organisation,”
“This training program develops the skills of our CAREGivers, but also assists us in helping the families of our clients’ and gives them peace of mind to know that their loved ones are receiving trusted care by their Home Instead CAREGiver in the safety and security of their own home.
“With more and more people being diagnosed with dementia every year, it is important that we offer a high standard of care to cope with this very real issue”, said Mr Warner.
According to Alzheimers Australia there are more than 269,000 people currently living with dementia in Australia and by 2050 this is projected to increase to 981,000 people. There are currently more than 1500 cases of dementia being diagnosed each week. Caring for people with dementia requires specialized knowledge and understanding. Trained CAREGivers can make a positive difference in helping people with dementia maintain their quality of life.
The Home Instead CAREGiver Dementia Training Programme covers three key areas in dementia care: identifying types of dementia; effective communication with clients with dementia; and understanding behaviours of concern and how to manage them. Home Instead Senior Care has taken a pro-active approach to help improve dementia care in Australia.
As a provider of home care services, Home Instead CAREGivers encourage, assist and stimulate older people in a variety of daily activities that improve their quality of life and help maintain their independence.
